✫✫ Job @ International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Disaster Management Officer/ Programme Officer
Background: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation. The IFRC has been working with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) for more than 30 years in humanitarian fields, mainly disaster response and management, cyclone preparedness, disaster relief and recovery, community based disaster preparedness, risk reduction and mitigation, health etc.
In line with the existing DRM strategy, BDRCS/IFRC developed a proposal and submitted to Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) through Korean Red Cross on ‘CBDRR: Enhanced Community Resilience to Floods in Bangladesh’. The purpose of the program is to scale up BDRCS capacity towards community resilience in reducing disaster and climate change risks via community-led approach. The program will engross the communities’ interest and association throughout from designing to its implementation phase.
The IFRC is now looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the following position: Position: Disaster Management Officer/Programme Officer Programme: Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) Programme Duration: 12 months with possible extension Location: Dhaka (With extensive field visit) No. of position: One (1) Purpose: Support implementation of Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) Program activities through working closely with BDRCS counterparts, and reporting to appropriate. Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Responsible to support and monitor Community based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) Program activities in project communities through maintaining close association with BDRCS DRM department and BDRCS district units in the project location
Incorporate the best practices, experience from previous CBDRR programs and indigenous knowledge in coping with disasters in the planning and designing of the program
Support BDRCS in strengthening and extending network with other local stakeholders and humanitarian actors to showcase the accomplishments of the program and developing partnership for support in relevant sectors
Responsible for coordinating, monitoring, developing proposals and Plan of Action of CBDRR program
Assist to develop monitoring and evaluation tools for program implementation
Prepare necessary reports for CBDRR program on a regular basis as required
Participate in CBDRR relevant meetings with relevant stakeholders
Conduct field visit as assigned and conduct monitoring visit to relevant project areas
Ensure all Cash request concerning CBDRR Program are prepared in accordance with Federation requirement and timely submission for approval.
Facilitate & organise trainings, workshops etc.
Facilitate and support emergency situation
In the event of Disaster, support the DM team on assessment, planning, implementation of response operation as directed by Program Coordinator
Assist the Federation DM team for development of accurate regular and timely narrative report for the Federation and Donor
Implement/ maintain Federation Standard Practice in Disaster Management activities
Any other duties assigned by Line Manager
Education and Experience:
Post-graduation in Social Science, Development Studies, Disaster Management and other relevant subjects
Minimum 3-5 years of working experience in Development/ humanitarian sector
Minimum 2 years of related work experience in Disaster Management
Experience of work with RCRC movement preferred.
Good command in MS Office Suite, internet and other relevant software.
Good command in both Bangla and English.
Excellent command on report writing.
