IUCN’s work is supported by over 1,000 staff in 45 offices and hundreds of partners in public, NGO and private sectors around the world. The Government of Bangladesh joined IUCN as a State Member in 1972. IUCN started its operation in Bangladesh as a “liaison office” in 1989 and a fully operation Country Office was established in Bangladesh in 1992.
Under the overall supervision of the Country Representative, the Communications Officer will be responsible for planning and implementing communications products and activities for the Bangladesh Country Office of IUCN. As a team member of Programme Unit, the incumbent will also be responsible to support the development and consolidation of IUCN Bangladesh and implementation of projects of the Country Office. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance of the Country Representative, IUCN Bangladesh, and Programme Coordinator for the matter related to communications, specific duties will be as under:
Act as Communications Focal Point for the IUCN Bangladesh Programme
Develop, implement and monitor the IUCN Bangladesh Programme communications strategy
Ensure that IUCN branding, guidelines, and other communications policies and procedures are strictly followed by all staff and consultants.
Work with the Programme Coordinator to ensure effective communications are integrated into all project concepts, proposals, budgets and work plans,
Coordinate the development and implementation of project level communications plans in accordance with IUCN's communications guidelines and policies to share projects' knowledge, stories and learning;
Ensure key communication messages and products are consistent and align with project objectives and IUCN's programme areas
Write, synthesize, edit, and produce high quality communications products in a range of formats, including press releases, reports, bulletins, factsheets, newsletters, brochures, policy briefs, web-stories, short-films, podcast etc. for the organization and its projects;
Oversee and manage production processes;
Organize publicity, knowledge-sharing events and promotional opportunities for the organization and its projects;
Establish and lead an internal system to regularly update IUCN Bangladesh's webpage and web-portals;
Generate media opportunities for IUCN in print, broadcast and online media by building and mobilizing network of media contacts;
Track and monitor the media, identify strategic positioning, and facilitate issue management pertinent to IUCN.
2. PRIVATE SECTOR ENGAGEMENT
In collaboration with the private sector focal point, support the development of a private sector engagement (PSE) strategy and action plan for IUCN Bangladesh in light of IUCN's PSE policies and guidelines;
Support the private sector focal point in relationship development and management in support of the PSE strategy and action plan.
Take regular initiatives to build capacity of IUCN Bangladesh staff on IUCN's communications guidelines and policies, influencing strategy and private sector engagement initiatives;
Coordinate with relevant focal points of IUCN in the region and beyond to take IUCN's regional and global mandates and plans forward; and
Undertake other duties as advised by the Line Manager or the changing demands of IUCN.
Masters in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, English or other Social Sciences.
At least 5 years' professional experience, of which 3-2 years are relevant to the assignment as defined in the terms of reference.
Good presentation, writing and spoken communication skills in English are essential.
