Agri-business for Trade Competitiveness Project (ATC-P), branded as Katalyst, is a market development project that aims to contribute to increasing the income of poor men and women in rural areas. It does this by facilitating changes in services, inputs and product markets, which in turn increases the competitiveness of farmers and small enterprises. Katalyst is co-funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the UK Government, and the Danish International Development Agency (Danida). It is implemented by Swisscontact under the umbrella of the Ministry of Commerce (MoC), Government of Bangladesh.
Now the project has several vacancies in different teams (Maize and Fertiliser, Local Agribusiness Network and Women Economic Empowerment). The teams are looking for dynamic, independent, sincere and hardworking professionals who have the vision to contribute to the economic growth of Bangladesh.
Position: Business Consultant
Positions: Business Consultant based in Dhaka (with extensive field visit requirements)
Reporting: Manager of relevant team
Number of vacancies: 4
Work experience: Business Consultant is an entry-level position. However, 1-2 years of work in private sector development project or in related private sector would be an asset.
Main responsibilities:
  • Working in a team, assess and analyse selected sectors to identify growth opportunities and underlying problems impeding growth in order to implement innovative strategies and interventions that ensure access to various services beneficial for poor farmers.
  • Provide assistance in preparing periodic progress reports, case studies, measurement of results, communication material, etc.
  • Analyse the market system to identify appropriate partners and design interventions to achieve project’s objectives.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of and maintain relationship with co-facilitators/sub-contractors/ implementing agencies. Establish linkages with the key players in the market.
  • Conduct regular field visits to ensure proper implementation of activities.
  • Any other functions advised by the management.
  • Support other teams to identify, implement and assess Women’s Economic Empowerment related opportunities within sector strategies (only Women Economic Empowerment).
Academic qualification and competencies:
  • Graduate/post graduate in Business, Economics, Social or Development Studies from a reputed university. However people from other disciplines with strong analytical skill and creative ingenuity are also encouraged to apply.
  • Capable of preparing good quality reports and case studies in English.
  • Good communication and negotiation skills (both English and Bangla) to maintain liaison with implementing partners, private partners and government sector stakeholders.
  • Sharp thinking, strong analytical skills and creative ingenuity.
  • Good understanding of how different business sectors operate in Bangladesh.
  • Good knowledge of and experience with contemporary development issues, particularly in the areas of inclusive business and private sector led development.
  • Experience in working with agents and contractors and monitoring their performance as well as experience in business research/field research, respectively in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Effective and committed team player.
  • Willing to travel extensively within Bangladesh.
  • Good computer skills.
