Job holder operate with minimal supervision, and are heavily involved in day—to-day activities, analytical work and provide advice on less complex issues.
This position reports to the International Communications Officer, with functional supervision from the Regional Communications Officer, to ensure that the CO communications activities serve WFP needs in the country of assignment, taking into consideration the overall regional communications plan and WFP’s corporate communications goals.
To implement the communications plan by supporting and delivering a range of communications activities, providing research and analysis, and prioritising effectively.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Contribute to the work of the UN Communications and Advocacy Group in Bangladesh; Assist the supervisor in the development of a Communication, Advocacy and Marketing Strategy specific for WFP Bangladesh’s Country Strategic Plan 2017-2020;
Implement advocacy, marketing and outreach campaigns which address Zero Hunger;
As the country is highly prone to natural disaster, closely monitor ongoing/potential emergencies and provide timely information, materials and updates to the PGP Team to facilitate funding and fundraising opportunities for emergencies both through global partnerships and local opportunities;
Analyze and understand social media metrics to provide actionable insights and make content creation and strategy decisions (with the help of the Social Media Analyst).
Collaborate with cross-functional team members on content ideas with the aim of creating dynamic, impactful and differentiated content;
Create and update social media tool kits and databases (i.e. Trello, Social Media messaging database) for HQ-lead social media campaigns;
Contribute to social media platforms through good research, analysis of assigned area of work and timely preparation and distribution of information products to target audience(s);
Maintain a contact list of journalists and media outlets and support the flow of news/information about WFP’s work to the media, to support regular and appropriate communications;
Generate donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, to support global and country fund-raising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages;
Support capacity building of WFP staff on all aspects of communication, provides advice and guidance within area and level of expertise, to ensure that all activities meet desired standards of consistency, quality and impact. For example the design and review of training materials;
Liaise and interact with WFP staff and external counterparts to support aligned activities and a coherent approach to communications within WFP;
Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to support WFP to quickly respond and deploy food and needed resources to affected areas at the onset of a crisis;

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Advanced University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible support experience including at least two years in the field of public information or another related field.
Language: National Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language and Bengali.
